In the near future PKP Polish Railways intends to pull down 155 dilapidated and unused buildings located on rail track in six voivodships. The purpose of the undertaking is to acquire fresh land for investments. Demolition of the old buildings will begin at the end of September or early October, and will be completed by the beginning of 2008. The project concerns structures located along the E65 Warsaw-Gdynia line and the E20 Warsaw-Poznan-Rzepin line. PKP will liquidate, among other buildings, 14 defunct railway stations, commercial and residential facilities, warehouses, offices and small waiting rooms.
Most of the buildings earmarked for demolition lie in the following voivodships: Mazowieckie (59 units), Lodzkie (43) and Wielkopolskie and Lubuskie (a total of 43 buildings). A dozen buildings will be dismantled in Pomorskie voivodship, and nine in Warminsko-Mazurskie. |
