The investment programme for the voivodship provides for the construction of the following express roads: the S-8 (Warsaw-Bialystok-Augustow-Suwalki-Budzisko) and the S-19 (Bialystok-Lublin-Rzeszow), both of which are currently national roads. National road No. 61 between Lomza and Zambrow will also be upgraded to express road standards.
The money for the project is to come mainly from EU funds, including from the Eastern Poland programme and the Infrastructure and Environment Programme. Domestic funding will cover 40% of the project costs.
Construction of the Augustow and Wasilkow bypasses is due to begin before the end of the year, as will modernisation work on the Bialystok-Katrynka section of national road No. 8.
