Poland looks set to reap investment rewards as western European companies relocate.
'Within the last two weeks I have had meetings with four different companies. All of them already have factories in Poland. Their representatives told me that very soon there will be a wave of so-called delocalization, transferring production sites, possibly to Poland,' Piotr Wielgomas, head of the personnel consultancy company Bigram tells Puls Biznesu.
Over the past few months a host of companies have announced they plan to move to Poland in a drive to cut costs. In April, Dell is to close its factory in Limerick, Ireland and relocate to Lodz in central Poland. Computer parts Esplex said it will close its factory in Plymouth, England and move to Poland. And International Paper (IP) announced it is to close its Scottish paper mill by the end of March, and move production to Brazil, Poland and Russia.
Poland seems to be an attractive option for many European companies because of the economic crisis in the West, the cheap Polish currency and the stalling of wage growth. Additionally, strong rivals to Poland for investment, such as Ukraine, have lost credibility and can no longer provide political and economic stability.
