What does 'Mamdom' Mean?
Mamdom, or correctly written 'Mam dom' means 'I have a home' and hopefully that is what you will be saying to your Polish neighbours very soon!
You can read more about Mamdom in the press or discover more about our business below.
What We Do
Mamdom was launched for two reasons. Firstly there was no professional property portal in the country for Polish sellers and buyers to use, and secondly there were a large number of non-Polish speakers who wanted to invest but found it extremely difficult - especially outside of the main cities.
Some smaller companies did exist but they tended to attract over-priced and specially selected offers targeted at foreign buyers who would not have time to familiarise themselves with local prices, and a number of purchasers were stung.
We pride ourselves on the quality, not quantity, of our offers because the problem with many of the established portals was that they were being clogged up by time-wasting vendors or out of date offers.
The main differences you will find here are:
Every image is hand checked and sized to avoid distortions, poor quality or irrelivant images being posted
Every offer is hand checked to ensure that details such as room numbers, etc. are stated where they should be
We only list offers with images and we charge which helps deter time wasting vendors
Every offer is translated into English by a native speaker with real estate experience
We ban agents who we find are acting unethically, either with Polish or English buyers
Why We Charge
From the moment Mamdom began the interest and demand from English Speaking buyers was intense. We made the decision to charge a small subscription fee based on two issues
Firstly we were translating an ever larger volume of properties and each offer is translated by an English native speaker with real estate experience.
The Polish market is being driven by domestic demand as it plays fifty years of catch up with its German neighbour.
This in itself means the property boom here is not being caused by speculative foreign investors that may cause a bubble which will burst.
At the same time it meant Polish Estate Agents had plenty of Polish business and they were not prepared to bare the costs of translating offers.
Secondly many agents were unhappy with the number of enquiries they were getting through Mamdom that did not go anywhere.
They felt there were too many people asking for more information on offers simply out of idle curiousity and with no short or medium term intention of visiting Poland.
Together we looked for a resolution that would separate out the serious buyers from the large number of people who were simply asking for "more information to be posted" to them.
It was decided that a person who was serious about spending several thousand pounds would pay a few pounds for access to the site.
Since then the situation has greatly improved and this has lead to better customer service for those who have real intentions.
Mamdom does not charge any commission on any sale.
We do provide a variety of extra services that can make finding and buying a property easier and the prices for these are clearly stated but they are not required for buyers who feel confident to go it alone.
From Small Beginnings
Mamdom began as one laptop in the corner of a Polish apartment offering a free service to Polish Estate Agents to promote their offers.
The first site covered only the county of Lubelskie and was a basic listing system.
Since then Mamdom has grown rapidly, becoming a registered Polish company in August 2005, and now lists thousands of offers as well as guides on how to buy, where to buy and information on the differences foreign buyers are likely to come across in this rapidly growing market.
Today we operate out of a permanent office in the city of Lublin as well as a number of freelance drivers and interpretors who assist English speaking buyers when they are visiting Poland.
Mamdom Today
Today Mamdom has 4123 subscribers, lists thousands of offers (with new properties being added daily) and assists foreign buyers from the Northern coast to the Southern mountains.
We translate between English speaking buyers and Polish sellers, provide interpretors and drivers so visitors can see what they want to see and ask what they want quickly, negotiate sale prices saving buyers thousands, fit out apartments for clients who have bought off plan, help individuals and families who are relocating to Poland, and carry out bespoke searches for specific polish properties - large and small - for private and corporate investors.
The website is ever changing with a developing Polish Property Guide and details on Why to Invest in Poland and area guides to help make decisions on Where to Invest.
This is a constant process and we welcome ideas and comments which will help you and other buyers.
